CS Macharia the next governor of Murang’a?

Just who is CS James Macharia is a question most Kenyans have been asking, amidst whispers given the huge allocations of funds in his docket.

Macharia, born in 1959 was born in Gachocho, Kigumo Constituency in Muranga County and was a practicing accountant before he was appointed by President Uhuru Kenyatta.

Macharia started off at the Health ministry and is now heading the Transport docket where a storm is slowly building up.

According to dailies, in his watch, the country has lost at least Sh100 million in various projects that either stall or funds are misappropriated.

Macharia has failed to deliver key infrastructure such as bridges, highways, seaports and airports despite the projects being heavily touted as vital to the development agenda.

There were 545 stalled projects valued at Sh366 billion as of June last year, according to a report by the Parliamentary Budget Office (PBO).

Eighty-seven of these projects valued at around Sh100 billion fall under Macharia’s docket.

However the CS is said to be eyeing the Muranga County Governor seat after the exit if the current incumbent Mwangi wa Iria.

This will be his first attempt at politics and should Macharia go ahead and vie he will lock horns with former Kigumo MP Jamleck Kamau, Muranga Woman Rep Sabina Chege, Senator Irungu Kangata among others who are being touted to seeking election in 2022.

“I dont who holds the CS’s hand in government given the many falls he have had but is saved, but ideally that tells you he can make a good politician.” Political Commentator Barack Muluka says.
