Democratic Party of Kenya (DP) has submitted nomination papers of its candidate for the Embakasi South Constituency by
-election to the IEBC.
The DP’s candidate, Ramesh Gorasia is a businessman with vast business interests in Embakasi South, chief among them being the recently demolished Taj Mall.
He will face five aspirants including Julius Mawathe (Wiper), Irshad Sumra (ODM), Angela Mwikali (Thirdway Alliance) and Jafferson Teddy Kasingu (KANU) and Jairus Mulei Musyoka (Independent).
Ramesh is also not new to Nairobi politics having contested for the Nairobi Senatorial seat in the recently concluded 2017 general elections and where he emerged third with 43,000 votes.
He submitted papers as the Monday deadline for paper submission to the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission inches closer.
This is the first move by the party since the appointment of former PS Irungu Nyakera as Deputy Leader to oversee growth and expansion of the party.
The seat fell vacant after the Supreme Court nullified the August 8, 2017 election of former Embakasi South MP Julius Mawathe. The apex court determined that he had not been legally elected.
According timelines released by IEBC, campaign period for the by-election is to commence on February 4 to April 2 and be conducted between 7am to 6pm.
