Deputy President William Ruto had denied that money allocated to the construction of Arror, Kimwarer dams has vanished.
“You are hearing that government has lost about Sh21 billion in Kimwarer and Aror dam, which is a flat lie! The money in question is about Sh7 billion, and for every coin that has been paid, we have a bank guarantee. No money will be lost! – DP William Ruto.
This was after the construction of the Sh66 billion Arror and Kimwarer hydropower dams in Elgeyo Marakwet was challenged with leaders saying the money had been used for personal interests by some leaders.
The DP’s aide Ken Osinde is on the DCI radar after a company he is associated with is suspected to have played a role in the multi-billion tenders for construction of the two dams.
Osinde is listed as a director of Sanlam Company, which is part of the 107 whose directors have been summoned to record statements with the police.
Detectives are probing why the firm was paid Sh47 million by Italian firm CMC di Ravenna – which is said to have pocketed billions of taxpayers’ cash for work not done.
The DP on Thursday stated that the projects are on course as planned and would come to fruition.
On Tuesday, Sanlam sent a director to explain why the firm was paid the said cash.
The contracts in question were awarded by the Kerio Valley Development Authority (KVDA).
