Kenya Returns Seized Gold and Cash Robbed in 2004 to Tanzania


A high profile  delegation from Kenya led by Foreign affairs Cabinet secretary Ms. Monica Juma and Director of public prosecution (DPP) Noordin Haji on Wednesday handed over 35.34 kilograms of Gold to Tanzania’s president John Mgufuli.

The Gold which was smuggled through Tanzania’s Mwanza Airport for shipping  to UAE was seized in Nairobi at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport in early February 2018 with an estimated value of Kes. 100 million.

Apart from the gold, the Kenyan delegation also handed to the Tanzania’s president Kes. 170 Million which was robbed at a Tanzanian bank – NBC Mwanga Branch in 2004.

President Magufuli  revealed that the deal to return the gold and the stolen millions was reached when the two heads of state met in Chato recently.

“I want to remind Tanzanians that you can’t commit a crime in Kenya and come to hide in Tanzania or vice versa…you will be nabbed,” he said.

President Magufuli  also directed security and defense organs in Tanzania to investigate if there were officials, who conspired by the culprit to smuggle the gold.
