Spotlight on MCAs: South B’s Waithera Chege

They say iron is sharpened by iron, then it is clear that leadership was born, and fine tuned in the current South B MCA Waithera Chege.

She will strike you as a very humble lady and quiet leader, but do not step on her in the wrong way.

Waithera was elected in the 2017 elections after unsuccessfully vying in 2013.

However before elections Waithera had served as an aide to Narc Kenya party leader Martha Karua for several years, a stint where many say toughened her for the rough world  of politics.

Waithera has also been an avid supporter of girl empowerment leading an organization dubbed ‘Inua Dada’ which helps address issues affecting the girl child in the country.

In her manifesto, Waithera promised to address the toxic emissions by factories and industries in the South B region, a move she vowed to ensure is achieved before end of her first term.

In over one year in office, the MCA is credited for the construction of Balozi road which is almost complete, clean up exercise in the estates within her ward and  issuance of ward bursaries fund.

A native of Muranga county, Waithera is also part of the team of women leaders who launched  the Democracy Trust Fund which is aimed at identifying, preparing and positioning women who have an interest in running for office in 2022.
