Muranga Governor Mwangi Wa Iria has been invited for the 2019 World Avocado Congress in Medellin City, Colombia, South America.
The Governor who was elated upon receiving the invite on Monday will be among the key speakers on the Avocado Farming, Enterprise Experience in Africa.
The three-day congress will involve knowledge, business and experience activities in the Global Avocado Sector.
Wa Iria is the first Governor in the country to receive the invite for his continued support to farmers in the county on matters avocado farming.
He has already distributed 500,000 Avocado seedlings and was recently awarded Kenya Avocado Personality of the Year.
Every farmer in Muranga is getting three Hash seedlings courtesy of the governor to plant with the ongpoing short rains.
During the launch of the mega million project, Iria stated that Murang’a targets to plant 10 million trees of Hass avocado by 2022.
The county already has six million trees and his government aims at providing local farmers with a million seedlings annually.
The county is currently reported to be earning Sh2.5 billion from Hass fruits, an amount it seeks to maximise by 2025.
The Hass tree has an optimal production of 1,000 fruits per year, meaning that of the 10 million trees that he aspires to have in the county, production will hit one billion fruits by 2025.
